1 Part Technique - While protecting your neck and beginning to escape your shoulders to the mat to avoid your opponent's back control, he may try to turn you back onto the side that favors his choke. Anticipate this roll, and go with it; stepping over faster than he plans on bringing you back over. Continue to control his choking arm, and sit on top of your heel to pinch his back hook for half guard. Crossface him with your free hand, and circle your other arm out to place yourself on top in his half guard.

Once you've stepped over, would it be prudent to consider:

1:  place your right shin over his shin (in lieu of sitting back on my heel)- in order to avoid the half guard?
2:  Once my free hand passes his face and grabs his gi, could you shoot for a deep cross collar grip with your other hand in order to apply a cross collar choke?

Sorry, I'm a novice with lots of learnin' to do!!
