3 Part Technique - Knee-On-Belly is useful for hunting after the submission when you've already established the Side Control. Pin your opponent's far arm by the wrist to the mat; this will make him uncomfortable and oftentimes entice him to react with his Nearside Arm. When he goes to rescue his far hand, wedge your shin into his near armpit for the Nearside Armbar from Knee-On-Belly. If he doesn't react to the bait or he is protecting the nearside space well, mount over top and secure the Kimura Grip to attack for the armbar again. If you don't want to risk falling back for the armbar from here, snake your leg around his neck and lock a figure-four with your legs for the Mounted Triangle.

it is easier to defend the arm bar when it is taken towards the head because of a hitch hike escape.

I also have the same question as vv272 in the past I have heard always armbar towards the head.  What is the issue?

why is it important for the armbar to go to the legs as opposed to the head?
