1 Part Technique - After establishing Underhook & Head Control from the Cross-Side Mount to pin your opponent flat upon passing his guard, it is time to start hunting for the submission. The Americana Shoulderlock, or Keylock, is a rudimentary technique that can be used directly from Side Control to immobilize your opponent and get the tap. Begin by switching your base into a Sit-Out configuration, allowing you to press his hand down to the mat and pin it with your weight as you weave your own hand under his and clasping together a thumbless, Figure-Four Grip. Image now that the back of his hand represent the bristles of a brush and you are going to drag it toward his feet, painting a line parallel to his body. Revving the wrist before applying the finishing pressure can help amplify the leverage applied as well as minimize the amount of energy necessary to induce defeat.
