Inside Knee Control vs Spider Guard, Toreando Pass vs Spider Guard
3 Part Technique - As a general rule of thumb, you should always try to anchor yourself with a firm grip on your opponent's gi while inside of his Open Guard. If you haven't made a counter grip somewhere, he will be able to pull your sleeve into empty space and possibly off balance you enough for a sweep. Tether yourself to him with a tight grip and match the intensity of his movement. For example, after countering the Spider Guard with Inside Knee pressure, he may try to switch his grips and attack from a different angle with De-La-Riva. This is precisely the moment you need to form a solid grip onto his pants and keep yourself squared up, controlling his Open Guard for a pass.
