Breaking Gi Grips from Standing
1 Part Lesson — Paul demonstrates a few important details regarding the Stand-Up exchange: [I] If your opponent makes a grip on your sleeve, roll your wrist and circle your hand around the grip to break it. If he grabs your collar, remove his hand with both of your hands as you pull yourself away from the pop. If he grabs the material behind your triceps, yank your elbow with the plane of the mat to rip free. If possible, deal with the Collar Grip first; otherwise, break the sleeve first to reach for the Collar Break. Always try to Make Grips after you Break Grips; keep his sleeve in your hand after breaking off the Collar Grip.
