2 Part Lesson — Marcelo demonstrates how to neutralize the De La Riva Guard: [I] If your opponent grabs your sleeve, immediately anchor your arm with a stable counter-grip; e.g. the collar/lapel. If your opponent tries to rotate around your lead leg to the outside, continually adjust your knee and point it to the outside to cut off his turn. If your opponent tries to splay out your leg and destabilize your base, step over his foot and tuck it between your knees on the inside. [II] If your opponent grabs your collar, dedicate two hands to his grip and yank off his hand, freeing up your posture. Keep a hold of his hand and use it to hit a Leg-Over Pass, swiping your leg across to the DLR-side.
