Rear Naked Choke
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo goes over the finishing points for the Rear Naked Choke: [I] Increase your odds of securing the neck by removing one of the opponent's arms from the equation; feed the arm underneath your Back-Hook, trapping it against his own torso with inward pressure created by your heel. Form your fist into the shape of an arrowhead and strongly dig against the weak points of the jaw until you gain access to the throat under the chin. Once under, raise your elbow to inch your hand deeper around the neck to the shoulder. If you can get deep enough, you have room to lock on the classic figure-four grip for the choke. If you cannot go deep around the shoulder, simply connect your hands in a Gable Grip and pull your forearm directly into the trachea for a Straight Choke. [II] When lying on the "Strong-Side" of your Seatbelt, withdraw your elbow away from the neck to make space for your hand to dig. However, beware of the Back Escape with his shoulder close to the mat; use your knees to help keep him from trying to flee from the position before you can lock the choke.
