Open Guard vs Standing Strikes
1 Part Lesson — Paul demonstrates strike defense from the supine position: When confronting a standing opponent while laying on your back (Inoki/Ali State, Sakuraba Position, et al.), rock your legs to pivot on the small of your back and circle around to follow the opponent's movement. If you have enough distance, you can place one foot on the ground to push off of; however, if the distance decreases, ready both legs to catch the hips or chest. Block the opponent from reaching your head with your legs and push him away from a successful attack. If he tries to kick, intercept his movement by stomping both knees to deprive him of power.
