Guard Pull from Standing → Push Kick Sweep from Butterfly
3 Part Lesson — Marcelo pulls guard with suboptimal control: [I] Gain whatever connection you can, whether it is Double Sleeve or Collar & Sleeve Control, and drop straight down in front of the opponent. Sit upright and immediately extend your feet behind the opponent's ankles as hooks to encourage a trip (Idiot Sweep, Dummy Sweep, Pegapaulista, Push-Kick, et al). You can implement either a push from both hands to each leg or dedicate both to just one; come up with his leg with an Ankle Pick or Single leg, or pull them on top into X-Guard or Single-Leg X. Time your trip as your opponent postures up strongly or yanks his arm free after you pull down. [II] If your opponent doesn't give a wide enough reaction that allows for you to take advantage of an off-balance/imbalance, pop back up to your feet and switch things up with a Takedown. [III] Utilize the grip on the opponent's collar to help lift yourself back up to your feet after pulling Seated Guard for the initial sweep attempt.
