3 Part Lesson -- Marcelo shows his typical nogi passing sequence: If your opponent is seated upright playing an Open/Butterfly Guard, knock them back flat as you step inside between the opponent's legs with your lead foot. If your trailing leg is also inside your opponent's guard, take a step with it towards the outside, clearing your opponent's leg. Push your opponent's knee down and away to make just enough room for you to swing your inside leg back and cut directly into the Knee-on-Belly Position; n.b. Marcelo stays efficient by not taking an extra step with his outside foot to enter the Knee-Mount. Follow your opponent if they escape their hips away until you can drop down in a Modified Scarfhold to secure the top position for the pass. [03:34] If your opponent dives underneath to grab your outside leg, quickly step back out of reach and immediately follow up with the Standing Step Pass to Knee-on-Belly. [07:16] If your opponent catches your leg with a Half Guard/Reverse-DLR Hook as you swing it back for the Standing-Step, switch directly into a Knee-Slide to pass the guard. Remember to chase the upper body and deflect any frames to control your opponent long enough to score, improve, or submit.
