4 Part Lesson -- Marcelo utilizes a "Power-Half" (Nelson Hold) to retain Back Control: Practice with a partner the following cyclical drill; fasten a Seat-Belt against the Turtle and have your partner roll away from your base alongside, follow them over and run your feet away towards N/S, drive your partner upright and lean them back into the Turtle Position while keeping your Seat-Belt Control. [01:01] If your opponent tries to hold your pants and establish Reverse Side Control after reversing you with the Turtle Guard Escape, extends your hips and run your legs away from their grips. If you cannot run your legs away, sit upright with your opponent and make a grip onto their lapel with your far-hand; use your opposite hand to help post back behind yourself if your opponent tries to knock you back flat again. Splay your legs apart and build yourself back into a kneeling base by swiveling your feet under your hips. [06:15] If your opponent is stuck onto your legs and you cannot free them further, introduce a Power Half Nelson onto your opponent to rip them off of your legs. When they release, use their momentum to execute a Rolling Back-Extension back to the top position behind your opponent. [11:15] Use the Lapel Grip under your opponent's arm to feed the collar under your opponent's neck and into your choking hand whenever you see an opportunity to strangle.
