Standing-Escape vs Knee-Bar from Open-Guard
Marcelo has his students get comfortable with the idea of disconnecting out of a Leg-Attack: Starting from standing, find the path of least resistance for clearing your knee out from your opponent's knee-line. Choose the best direction and free your leg from danger before your partner has a chance to secure a finishing position. Use your standing base to help deliver your weight in the most appropriate manner; whether that be falling and kicking, spinning, yanking, or disentangling. It doesn't always pay to stay in the position and search for a technical solution or counter-attack. Oftentimes, evasion is the best answer when it comes to threats against your ankles and knees.
