Marcelo briefly speaks on the importance of not only breaking your opponent's grips, but also having a follow-up prepared for when your opponent retaliates in kind: Have a move ready to deploy the moment you strip away your opponent's control; this may come in the form of a pass, e.g. a Knee-Cut, or even just a slight adjustment of your base in order to weaken their next set of hooks. The more you let your opponent reset their position for free, the more exhausted you will become. It is always better to seek an improvement in your position, especially when you clear yourself free of any grips your opponent can make to slow you down or possibly endanger you. Work on making automatic subsequent maneuvers immediately after your release.
