2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo neutralizes the De-la-Riva Guard w/ Collar & Sleeve: Your opponent can utilize his or her four limbs to set-up attacks; the DLR-Hook, the Foot-On-Hip, the Cross-Collar Grip, and the same-side Sleeve-Grip. Point your lead knee toward the outside to nullify the DLR-Hook, clear the foot from your hip to the inside or outside, and prepare your hands to break off the Collar-Grip. Keep your hand caught by the sleeve secured somewhere on the jacket to avoid giving up control over your arm before teaming up to strip the Collar-Grip. Lean away, not upward, to break the Collar-Grip. Try yanking your sleeve out of the remaining grip, or even assist with your other hand to smack off his or her hand. If these tactics don't work, circle your wrist around the grip and reset your own grip back on the lapel. This twisting will compromise the integrity of your opponent's grip and force them to exchange it for another. When your opponent releases your sleeve, either back out entirely or hit hard into a pass. [04:23] If you cannot reattach to your opponent's gi after circling your wrist around his or her Sleeve-Grip, be ready to thwart the Lasso. Use your free hand to push away the opponent's ankle as you circle your hand under and to the outside of the shin. Make a move when your opponent readjusts to find a better control.
