Hook Sweep Reversal vs Guillotine, Arm Triangle Defense
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo counters an opponent attempting to pass your Butterfly-Guard with a Front Head-Lock: If your opponent evades your Single-Leg by sprawling their leg away after jumping to your side while holding you inside a Front Head-Lock, immediately insert your Butterfly-Hook and lift them overhead into a sweep. Land with your bodyweight on top of them and protect yourself from attacks to your neck by keeping your elbows in tightly. Safely hunt for your opponent's legs so that you can gather them up and drive more weight down via your shoulder until their hold breaks. There may be an opportunity to swing your arms and switch for North/South top position, but be careful not to overextend your elbows and place yourself in danger of a choke. [4:31] If your opponent defends the sweep by going belly-down afterwards while also maintaining the Front Head-Lock, tuck your elbows and chin inward while working on breaking open their grip; work against their hands with short localized pushing, pulling, and peeling until your opponent loses their connection. Once safe, look to recover back your guard or escape back to a neutral setting.
