2-Part Advanced Lesson -- Marcelo scores a takedown inbounds against a stable standing opponent: Running your opponent over from a low-tackle with proper upright posture is an effective strategy for off-balancing them and bringing them to the mat. However, if your opponent keeps good base and is able to shuffle or sidle themselves effectively with the pressure of a standing sprawl, you may run out of room to finish the double before stepping out of bounds (or crashing into; a wall, another group, etc.); if you notice this to be the case during your shot, try timing your feet so that you can kick your opponent's legs off to the side and cut a flare-finish (i.e. swinging their legs and surfacing your head up). Land such that your body catches itself in a bridge while keeping your shoulder connected onto your opponent's body. [2:32] If you cannot readily turn the corner and run with your double towards side control, you may have to kick out your opponent's opposite leg with your other-side foot, i.e. on the side your head is when running down the double. However, if you end up falling down with your opponent into their guard and your head is submerged, you must be ready to possibly defend any potential guillotine threats.
