Collar-&-Elbow from Standing, Reverse Hook-Lift from Butterfly, Ankle-Trap Sweep from X-Guard
Advanced Lesson Part 2 of 2 -- Marcelo shares a back-up plan off of his Guard-Pull to Hook-Lift: If your opponent is quick to react to your committed Guard-Pull, they may have a chance to disconnect from your initial Butterfly-Hook on the side of your Elbow-Control. If this happens and miss with it, you still have a chance to reconnect your position; salvage your Hook-Lift attempt by elevating your opponent with your opposite foot. This Reverse Butterfly-Hook is particularly adept at countering any ideas of your opponent cutting across with a Knee-Slide Pass. Use your hook to help lift your opponent up and guide their leg down onto your shoulder where you can configure an X-Guard. While you are maintaining your X-Guard position, your opponent may have an opportunity to pummel their leg out of your X-Hooks; this usually happens if you are not careful in the placement of your knees and feet relative to their hips. If your opponent attempts to foot-pummel, try blocking the space with your knees and snag their far-ankle with your free-hand. If you time it correctly and are able to catch their ankle, you will have a much easier time breaking your opponent's base down to come up for a sweep.
