4-Part Advanced Lesson -- Bernardo shares details on his infamous Deep Half-Guard for no-gi sweeps: Discern which kind of Deep-Half you want to play; one variation allows for easier access to Butterfly-Hooks while holding the far-hip, and another concentrates on the near-hip for better Single-Leg attacks. When holding the near-hip, turn onto your side to prevent your opponent from readily pummeling for an Under-Hook; you may need to momentarily forgo ideal control over the near-hip an reach behind to latch onto their far-hip if they are trying to sit-over into the opposite side. Spin into your opponent while controlling their near-leg and turn-over onto your knees to drive into a Double-Leg sweeping finish. [2:34] Stay tight with your elbows around your opponent's thigh as you explosively turn from the Deep-Half into a Single-Leg for the sweep. [2:46] If your opponent manages to pummel their much-needed far-side Under-Hook, you can still go for the spin but you must first clear some space for your arms to turn. [4:44] Use your hand that is controlling around your opponent's near-hip in the Deep-Half to cup behind your opponent's triceps that is under-hooking your far-arm. Use this hold to help yourself pummel around your opponent's Under-Hook as you spin hard in the direction of the Single-Leg and eventual Double-Leg finish.
