2-Part Fundamental Lesson -- Thomas demonstrates a shoulder-lock to submit or sweep: Starting from Closed-Guard, secure a Cross-Grip on your opponent's sleeve as you use your legs to break their posture while scooping their knee with your opposite hand. Before your opponent can posture back upright strongly, quickly uncross your ankles and swing your leg outward and chop your other leg behind their triceps to initiate an Omoplata (Coil-Lock, Sankaku-garami, et al.). Pendulate your free leg downward to help yourself sit-up as you look to secure a grip around your opponent's far-shoulder. Bring your feet behind your knees and elevate your hips across their near-side shoulder to finish the submission. [2:53] If you encounter difficulty sitting up quickly to gain access to your opponent's far-side shoulder, stretch your leg straight against their arm while holding their near-side leg and rolling towards the outside. After your opponent flips over, base out and establish a Reverse Side-Control to take top position.
