Sprawl vs Takedown
Paul briefly imitates the wrong way to warm-up for his class: The sprawl maneuver is a quintessential aspect of wrestling in grappling when an opponent shoots in on your legs from the neutral standing position. It is imperative that when executing the movement, it is done in a smooth and continuous manner along with the assistance of gravity; practicing the move in a piecemeal fashion can be detrimental towards its integration in live training and competition. Meet their attack by changing your base and allowing your hips to quickly drop to the mat by kicking your feet backwards out from underneath. When practicing the sprawl during partnered warm-ups, your partner will present open hands for you to reach out and touch before you throw back your legs and stifle a theoretical takedown attempt.
