Master Fabio Gurgle shows how to disarm the Spider-Hook: It is important to remember not to rush though a good position when you get one; relish the moment and allow your opponent to tire themselves out by resisting in an inferior place before moving on and advancing. If your opponent is able to transition into an Open-Guard after you successfully apply a Standing-Break, don't try to run away from their control; if they place a foot on your biceps while holding your sleeve (Spider-Hook, Stirrup, et al.), running away from their hook will lead you into a strong off-balance. Instead, circle your trapped hand inside and pin your opponent's leg down with a Knee-Cut. If they defend by bringing in their other knee, abandon the Knee-Slide and switch for the Tripod-Pass and Knee-Weave series.
