Collar and Elbow Control Hook Sweep from Butterfly, Breaking Gi Grips vs Butterfly
Marcelo shows several ways of finding grips for his Hook Sweep from Butterfly: The two main components of control for initiating the Hook-Sweep from the Butterfly-Guard are a grip on an ipsalateral elbow and contralateral knee; using his dominant right-hand to immobilize his opponent's left-arm, Marcelo can couple this grip with a lifting force against his opponent's right-leg with the left-side Butterfly-Hook. Whether grabbing around the wrist, seizing the sleeve, or shoving the elbow medially, his opponent will not be able catch their balance by placing a hand out to post against any sweep towards the direction of his trapped arm. If his opponent makes the mistake of raising their opposite-leg while their arm is compromised, it will make it even easier for the Butterfy-Hook to take action and elevate them into the sweep. Marcelo left-hand can be placed at the collar to scoot himself even closer and help guide the opponent over, as his right-foot finds the floor to push from if he needs greater height for the finish. When attempting to counter said Hook-Sweep, one must immediately overcome the control over their elbow and free up their ability to post; use your free-side arm to help break off the grip made at your sleeve to ruin the sweep's set-up as well as the stripping the collar-grip.
