2 Part Technique - Just because your guard fails doesn't mean the opponent will establish side control and score the pass. After the opponent beats your legs, prepare for him transferring his weight and seeking controls against your upper body by raising your nearside shoulder and latching onto his arm that looks for the underhook. Before he can establish, swing your nearside leg back in between your bodies to recover the guard. If the opponent makes it difficult for you to swing the leg in front of him, begin turning to face the mat supported by the balls of your feet and your nearside shoulder. Use this turtled position to roll your hips much harder and directly into his weight to recover the guard.
