2 Part Technique - The journey back to recovering your guard begins first with proper defensive posture, to ensure that your arms are not readily vulnerable for attack. Place one forearm against his shoulder while placing the other against his waistline. In order to move your legs into position to where you may close the guard again, you will need to create space with a strong bridge, and keep that space by locking out your arm on his hip. Hip escape, and insert your bottom leg between his knees, locking the half guard with your outside leg hooking his ankle. Replace your hand on his hip with your inside knee, and take his arm away from it so you can hip escape out to that side, freeing your foot for Closed Guard. If he stop your half guard entry by block your hip with his arm, turn over onto your knees to attack for a Single Leg with your underhook. Base out with your foot while under him, and pull his knee toward where you've stepped up and posted your foot on the mat.
