Escape Armbar from Mount, Armbar Escape vs Closed Guard
2 Part Technique - The best way to defend against the Armbar from Mount, besides not letting your opponent get there in the first place, is to preemptively lock a tight counter-grip around your own attacked arm. This primarily consists of a figure-four lock, similar to that used when applying the Rear Naked Choke. In order to maneuver yourself out of the hold, you will need to develop a strong base from which you can derive strength from the mat as you pull out your arm. To do so, rock your legs like a pendulum to generate enough momentum to lift yourself up into a kneeling position, stacking your opponent on his neck and shoulders. To stabilize the position and continue protecting your arm, remain in a crunching posture and support his lower back with the side of your knee. Without extending yourself or releasing the contracting pressure, tug out your elbow and avoid the threat of hyperextension. In retaliation, determine which option is more economical and either flip him over to Turtle, taking his back with the Seatbelt, or throw his hips away from your legs, dropping into Side Control.
