2 Part Technique - Be wary of the leglock when you open your Closed Guard; establish a 2on1 first and then work your feet onto his hip to sit up into Butterfly Guard. If he remains tight around your hips, plant your foot on the mat and escape your hip enough to slip your knee between for the Butterfly. Keep the 2on1 and finish with any connecting sweep, e.g. the Cross Arm & Belt Sweep from Butterfly Guard. The idea here is to keep your ankles safe from attack throughout the entire transition from Closed Guard to Butterfly.
