The James Brown “Half-Split” Recovery
3 Part Lesson — Marcelo evokes "The Godfather of Soul" to Escape the Back: [I] Instead of placing your back on the mat to recover guard, remain seated upright by placing a frame in between and posting behind; look to insert your Butterfly Hooks back inside for the Over/Under Hook Sweep. [II] If your opponent shucks you by and takes your back, immediately grab wrist control to prevent the Seatbelt or Choke, and lean onto his lock to raise up for James Brown's "Half-Split" to Reverse Hook Sweep. [III] If your opponent sets a Back Hook and looks to roll-through, dive over his shoulders to slip out of his control, placing your back on the mat for the escape.
