Underhook & Head Control from Scissors Sweep, Short Hook Sweep w/ Underhook & Head Control from ¾ Guard, Underhook & Head Control Bridge Sweep from Half Guard
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains two very similar, but subtly different, sweeps: [I] The positioning for the Nogi Scissor Sweep is a great way to catch a Strong Underhook; keep your foot outside, release the tension by taking your other knee out and scoop up his head and arm for Underhook & Head Control with a Gable Grip. As long as your foot remains outside, you don't need to frame against his shoulder with your forearm to make the Underhook & Head Control Sweep from ¾ Guard. If your foot gets caught by his legs as you land heavily on top, keep squeezing the control and cut over his hips with the Knee Cross Pass vs Half Guard. Utilize a Grapevine to extend his leg and make space for your foot to step on his knee for the sweep. [II] If you cannot place your foot on his knee, position your elbow inside on his collarbone and claim ½ Guard. Post your feet in between his knees as you carry the opponent over to the side for the sweep.
