2 Part Lesson — Marcelo goes back to the ground to escape Standing Back Control: [I] If you cannot shake your opponent off of your back while standing, fall to the side of your free shoulder and scrape his chest off of your back with the ground. Raise your hips off the ground with the balls of your feet, continue to defend the choking arm, and drive your shoulder to the mat so you can twist back into his guard. [II] If your opponent tries to keep the top position during your escape, at the very least, win the Half Guard with an Underhook. Keep your hips up as he tries to mount over top before stuffing his leg into your Half Guard. Use the Underhook to sweep, take the back, or recover a better guard.
