2 Part Lesson — Marcelo escapes from the Closed Guard: [I] Whether you win the hand fight, gaining control over your opponent's wrists to inhibit his grips, or he leaves you a moment of freedom by hiding his hands, make it up to your feet by popping your hips forward and slightly arching backward to put pressure on his Closed Guard. Place both hands on the inside of one knee to push it off of your body; you may need to stagger your foot back to prevent pushing his leg down onto your hip. If you feel stable, you can also underhook his leg and pry his ankles apart; but be wary of the Triangle, keep your other hand high and away from his grips to avoid falling down into the submission. [II] If your opponent attempts to transition into K-Guard (Inverted-Shin on Hip with Same-Side Leg Control) for a sweep or submission set-up, beat his knee to the inside space by quickly dropping your knee down before he can rest his shin along the inside of your thigh. Once beat, you can escape to Neutral or continue passing around to Side Control.
