4 Part Lesson — Marcelo evades and counters the opponent's leglock entry: [I] If your opponent launches his feet toward your lead leg from an inverted position, spinning around from either the inside or outside, to isolate your lead leg inside an entanglement, extract your foot upward; in the same manner, double-down on the disengagement and retreat your opposite leg too to avoid a possible follow-up attack by your opponent. [II] If you cannot lift your leg up and out of the 50-Zero (aka Outside-Ashi, et al.), drop your knee to the mat and hide your foot. Sprawl your leg away from your opponent's reach as you look to isolate his head with your arms. [III[ If you cannot drop your knee down to the mat, use your grip on the opponent's head to take him away from your foot as you base your knee down. If you miss the chance to capture the head and prevent your foot from getting caught, hunch down and eject out of the lock. Push with your hands and use your free outside leg to kick the opponent off of your hip, knee, ankle, and toes. [IV] Never fall down with your free leg under your weight if you are trying to escape from the leg entanglement; make sure your leg remains on the outside so that you can readily place a kick to the opponent's legs to free your knee-line from danger.
