Standing Closed Guard Break
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo talks about the Standing-Closed-Guard-Break for Nogi: You must prepare to move quickly after breaking open your opponent's guard in Nogi; you can go more slowly in the Gi because the friction from the fabric will keep you more connected. The break in Nogi however, disconnects you from your opponent quickly and leaves room for counterattack against your legs. Kick your leg up and back to avoid an Ankle Pick, leaving your preferred lead leg in front for passing. If your opponent begins inverting or climbing up to ensnare your legs into a Leglock, quickly high-step out of danger. [04:27] It is important to lean back when digging at the ankles for the break. Staying close with your torso stooped over will allow your opponent to climb your back with his or her legs and attack your arms.
