2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo isolates his opponent's hands before standing up to break open the Closed Guard: Marcelo prefers wrist control over grips on his opponent's sleeves when kneeling with posture inside the Closed Guard; it's harder for your opponent to re-grip and dominate your arm when you release for the next transition. If your opponent forms a cross-grip on your sleeve, secure your hand by grabbing the jacket and use your free hand to pin down the opponent's cross hand so you can yank your sleeve free. [04:32] Pop up to both feet simultaneously so that you deprive your opponent of opportunities to formulate an attack against your legs as you rise. Dedicate both hands to one side of the pants and pressure outward to force your opponent to uncross his or her ankles and begin passing.
