Lesson Part 2 of 4 -- Marcelo avoids tapping from an Ankle-Lock: Whenever your opponent drops back with your foot controlled for a Straight Ankle-Lock, do your best to ride up with their own momentum and not have to rely on your hands to post on the ground to sit up. Ideally, you will have your hands ready to clear your opponent's foot from your hip and/or remove their inside knee (Butterfly/Shield) from keeping you extended away. If you cannot sit up as they fall back, don't waste time trying to come up against their blockages; instead, latch onto their jacket with both hands and pull them away from your trapped foot as much as possible. Cinch up your grip until you feel confident enough to let go with one hand and use it to help clear their inside knee. You can push their knee down and vault over top of it into a modified/technical Mount Position, or you can push it outward and swing your free leg over top of it to get to the Mount. You can also forgo removing their shielding knee if you can regain a kneeling base with your free leg and come up on top. Try swinging your free foot to the outside/backwards or even the inside/underneath to take the top position.
