Toe Hold Escape
Lesson Part 2 of 2 -- Marcelo performs late-stage defense against a Toe-Hold: If your opponent rolls through with your foot locked before you have a chance to employ an early or on-time defense (i.e., Kick-Escape and Back-Take, respectively), you must be prepared to defend against your opponent finalizing the position. Use your hands to help post against your opponent's legs to prevent them from biting down on your hips to keep you in place for the finishing pressure. Use your free foot to stomp against the inside of your opponent's arm to bust open their grip to release the Toe-Hold. If your opponent begins to spin with your foot locked, you must follow them by rolling with their turn and match their speed. While rolling, use your leg to kick yourself out of the hold before your opponent has a chance to slow you down and settle into the submission.
