Lesson Part 1 of 2 -- Marcelo opts for an alternative upper-body control for when his opponent hides the space for a traditional far-side under-hook: If your opponent keeps their elbow held tightly against their body when you go to push them flat for a pummel into an under-hook, switch directions and start bringing their back up off the mat, turning them back up onto their side. Keep your own elbows tucked closed so as to not offer an under-hook for your opponent, and place your chest behind their exposed triceps; get onto your toes to help generate a driving pressure into their arm and connect your hands together behind their head for the Cross-Arm Under-Hook & Head Control. Continue forward with a patiently probing Knee-Slide Pass (as done with an Over/Under Upper-Body Control), using your free-foot to find their bottom knee to push off of and slips your leg out of their Half-Guard and into Side-Control.
