Marcelo shows Johny Hendricks and Marc Laimon how to incrementally risk defensive control to recover from Half-Guard: When your opponent flattens you out with an Under-Hook and Head Control from Half-Mount (a.k.a. Super-Hold, et al.), first try to bring their weight above your hips; then clamp down onto their arms so they cannot post out as you bump them over or make enough space to frame. If you cannot get underneath of their hips with yours, hit them with a short but strong bump to make them react; when they look to adjust their control, occupy the space you made by inserting your forearm in between and applying a Frame-Escape. You can use your frame to recover Full-Guard or even Stand-Up back to your feet. If these moves don't work, you will have to risk even more to improve your position; insert a Butterfly-Hook from Half-Guard (a.k.a. Butterfly-Half, Half/Butterfly, et al.) to help lift your opponent and force a reaction. If you cannot sweep them one way, immediately switch directions and apply your opposite hook to catch them off-guard with continuous offense.
