2 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains how to defend against chokes under sprawl: [I] If your opponent manages to sprawl free against your Single Leg Takedown attempt, do not reach for the leg again otherwise you run the risk of exposing yourself to submission. Instead, remain flat and heavy while holding your elbow in tight against your sides and chest. Use your hands to pull the opponent's arms away from your neck, also pinch with your armpit on his overhooked arm. If you feel the opponent shift his arms for on of the Arm Triangle Variations (Anaconda or D'arce), adjust your pressure from bottom to stall out the threat. [II] If you feel your opponent roll to either side, prevent him from turning you by using your legs to base out wide, similar to how one should base on top while finishing a N/S Choke.
