2 Part Technique - Recognize the opponent's Deep Half Guard intentions and sprawl away to counter. If the opponent enters Deep Half, sit over and control his upper body with an Under Hook to win the position. As the opponent uses his Hook to sweep, look to free your leg and square up offensively.

trout_tapout, you should direct these questions to the forums.
The third part of this technique: http://www.mginaction.com/VideoDetails.aspx?VideoId=12634
should answer your question. Basically, Marcelo returns to regular half guard and makes a grip on the opponent's far-side collar (the one opposite of the arm they use to make the lapel grip).

Seriously, if anyone can ask him it would be much obliged.

Go to about 2:50 in this video. He didn't get here from deep half but its virtually the same position, and he uses it to take the back. Pretty slick!

Can someone please ask Marcelo how he addresses the grip found in this video (see youtube video link below) at the :36 second and :49 second mark while using this pass.  I USED to love this pass until it met this grip.  The arm leverage across your back with their elbow is brutal.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7fLtrDJObok
