3 Part Lesson — Marcelo explains several iterations of the Hook Sweep from 2on1: [I] Engage, but don't give him any control; protect your legs and Hand-Fight for 2on1. Utilize a Pistol Grip in conjunction with Elbow Control to scoot underneath his base and lift with the Hook Sweep. Raise your hook as high as possible until he falls off of your leg and you can claim the top position. [II] If he breaks your Pistol Grip as you enter the Sweep, switch to the Cross Collar and continue the Hook Sweep. Upon landing, look for the underhook to establish the Side Control or work toward a Pass. [III] If your opponent balances by posting his foot far away against the Hook Sweep, use your tippy-toe to knock out his base. If you can't reach, you may need to transition to X-Guard. Also, check to see if you can place your foot on his shin to push his knee closer for your foot to reach in the Short Hook Sweep.
