3 Part Lesson — Marcelo shares details on the Technical Lift & Tree-Top Single: [I] Starting with Double Underhooks, hook-lift your opponent into the air for X-Guard. If you cannot reach his arms, this indicates that his weight is distributed for the Technical Lift; keep your head up and try to keep his knee on top of your shoulder as you take him up for the sweep. [II] If you feel his knee slip off of your shoulder, use your hand to adjust and secure his leg from escaping the sweep. [III] If he drops his knee before you can sit-up, cup his knee with your hand and push it back into place; also use your other hand to turn his knee up. Drop to your knees on the finish to avoid getting tangled up in a leglock or counter. If he pushes you back down to the mat with his hands when he is closer to you, intercept his hand or grab his wrist from the beginning. Allocate your attention to whichever part of the movement your opponent tries to utilize for his escape; if his knee dips down again, let go of his wrist and push his knee back up. Avoid the Triangle Choke by letting go of his wrist as he jumps.
