4 Part Lesson — Marcelo counters the X-Guard in 3 stages; early upon entry, during the position, and after the sweep: [I] If your opponent tries to Hook Sweep you with the intention of claiming X-Guard, simply swing your leg across his body and establish Side Control with an Underhook before he can catch your leg with his arms. You will need to twist your upper body against the direction of your swinging leg to face the opponent. [II] If your opponent manages to place your leg on his shoulder, you can stand up to help keep him down but you also risk getting swept. Use both of your hands to grip onto his "front-side" arm and remove it so you can hit the Leg Over Pass into Side Control with an Underhook. [III] If your opponent knocks you backward, post against his shoulder as he tries to rise on top and slip your leg out off of his shoulder before he can come up with the single. [IV] Rather than turning away from the opponent after the sweep, which exposes your back, perform a Technical Stand to remove your leg from his control.

going to try to counter. I feel like everyone I have rolled with at the academy is really good at this entry. Before I know it I am being swept.

I really enjoy this instruction b/c it exposes the holes in my x-guard game as well as learning how to capitalize on those holes..or mistakes other people will possibly make.
