2 Part Lesson — Marcelo shares his preferred method of escaping the Armbar: [I] Buy yourself as much time as possible by configuring your arms in a figure-four (like a Rear Naked Choke), hiding your hand on your bicep and wrapping your free arm over top. Run your feet away from the Armlock to find an escape angle, and windmill your legs hard to spin yourself prone. Use your toes to drive yourself up on top and place your opponent in a Stack. Reinforce the Stack by posting behind his hips with your leg like a kickstand. Slowly work your elbow free until you are free from the extension and can safely yank out of the hold; remember to avoid the Closed Guard after escaping the lock. [II] If your opponent hooks your near leg with a free arm while attacking the Armbar, use your free leg to scrape off his hand from your knee and run your legs away from his underhook. Build traction on the mat with your feet to crawl yourself up after whipping your legs around to face the mat.
