Retention vs Back Step
2 Part Lesson — Marcelo adjusts his X-Guard for long and/or flexible opponents: [I] If you are complacent with your superior positioning, you may be caught off guard if your opponent bursts out of your hooks in X-Guard. Do your best to remedy the problem as quickly as possible; follow his Back Step out with your legs extending, allowing your hooks to re-catch his thigh and reset the position. [II] If you feel your opponent try to tug his leg across your body to release himself from 1Leg X, batten down the hatches and increase the intensity of your control. Hug everything closer and pinch your legs more tightly around his leg to avoid letting him slip out in a sudden burst.
