Sweeps from X Guard
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo clarifies details on maintaining X-Guard: If your opponent attempts to dismantle your hooks by grabbing at your legs, stretch them out and shake his or her base. If a grip is made on your pants, break free and immediately attack with a sweep. Either knock the opponent backwards or come up with a Treetop Single-Leg; make sure you support the opponent's leg on your shoulder and not the crook of your arm. Don't fall into a Triangle when finishing the sweep. [04:18] If your opponent seizes your sleeve and holds your shoulders off the mat, switch your X-Hooks higher up onto the trail leg. Circle your hand around the grip and force the opponent to release the hold. When the grip breaks, immediately grab the far leg and finish with the sweep.
