4 Part Lesson -- Marcelo applies advanced arm trapping to get the choke: Starting from the Seatbelt Control and Back Mount Position, you can use your arm that is draping over your opponent's shoulder to push down their arm on that side and trap it underneath your Back-Hook. Don't telegraph your intentions by pushing slowly towards the trap; you must quickly thrust your opponent's arm down before they can intentionally resist the movement. Once trapped, your goal is to get your choking arm underneath your opponent's tucked chin. Place the thinnest part of your forearm at the wrist directly in front of your opponent's chin and begin wedging it inside. You can finish with a Short Choke and Gable Grip if your opponent tries to pry free quickly, or secure the Figure-Four for the traditional Mataleão. [04:22] If your opponent won't let you get underneath their chin, use your choking hand to grab your opponent's free wrist. Now, use your free hand to pull back your opponent's forehead, thus exposing their throat to the choke. Immediately, release the opponent's hand and fire your choking arm under the chin. [08:13] You can apply the Arm-Trap from the standing Back-Pack Position as well. Before you jump to fasten the Seatbelt, do something to off-balance your opponent and force them to let go of your hands while holding the Rear-Body-Lock. Aim high above your opponent, putting your chest directly between your opponent's shoulders. Push the opponent's arm down towards your hook and trap it with your leg. [11:33] If you are unable to push your opponent's arm down close enough for your leg to trap it, trade your same-side one-on-one wrist control for the cross-side grip on the wrist. This grip is closer to your hooks, so you will often find it easier to capture your opponent's arm.
