2 Part Technique - If you plan on passing your opponent's butterfly guard by standing up in front of him with your foot inside, you have to be prepared for countering his single leg takedown. As he picks up your leg, raise your knee with his lifting; leaving your foot on the ground during his attack will give him a tighter hold around your leg. Once your knee is free from his clutches, push off of his hip with the bottom of your foot to kick him off of the takedown attempt. If he picks your leg up before you can match his lifting and raise your knee, quickly secure an overhook, aka whizzer, and use it to lift his shoulders away from your knee as you stomp your foot back down to the mat. If you can't immediately break his grip with this technique, control his wrist to help peel off his hold around your leg while you lift with the whizzer and kick your leg free.
