2 Part Technique - Marcelo revisits the idea of immediately dealing with a threat when it arises. The moment you realize things are amiss, focus all of your effort into the most direct approach possible to unwind your opponent's control. For example, in the case of the Americana shoulderlock, as soon as your opponent let's go of your head to lace the figure-four, launch into the Elbow Push Escape. If he locks it on before you can react, connect your hands together to buy some time, and then bump his face toward the mat.

This is an awesome lesson. I see big strong guys trying to hit the Americana submission from the top and this is a great response to the threat.
