On Finishing a Sweep
2 Part Lesson -- Marcelo provides two examples of practicing Zanshin after a technique is executed: When you sweep with a Collar-Tie from Butterfly Guard and end up on top without an Underhook, you must continue to apply effort until you have arrived at a position of advantage and dominance. Don't let your opponent reverse you or take your back after your sweep; stay alert and prepare yourself with the possibility that you might have to keep fighting after your initial move. [06:08] Another example comes from the Takedown Sweep from X-Guard (Joga-fora-no-lixo, Tree-top Single, Moguri, et al.); be ready to defend yourself from an attack (Leglock, Triangle, etc.) when you finish the position. Sometimes your opponent will accept your sweep only to get a head-start with a counterattack.
