2 Part Lesson — Marcelo cleans up his technique for an easier submission: [I] Too many practitioners fall back for the Farside Armbar with the hope of finishing only to let their opponent defend by clasping his or her hands together before the extension. Marcelo would rather prevent his opponent from ever making a grip before stepping aroun for the Armlock. Accomplish this by use your knee to pin down the Nearside Arm, stapling it to the mat away from his opposite hand. [II] If your opponent's hand is placed in a manner that prevent you from easily pinning it down in a Crucifix-like maneuver, use your hand to push his arm down and then step on his arm with your foot. It is important to swing your foot over his chest as you fall onto your side; finish by pulling his arm across your hip toward the side of his feet to decrease his chance of escape.

Because things are more slippery in nogi, you need better control. Head on opposite side and hands clasping gives the strongest grip.

If the head was one the same side, the grip isn't as strong and there is a chance for your opponent to slip out.

Head same side is preferred in gi though because you have material to hold and can overhook the nearside arm (without clasping the hands) and still have good control.

Why do you have the head on different sides for gi and nogi? Thanks in advance for anyone who can answer that :)
